Baroque Odyssey - Central Library
Baroque Odyssey is a multimedia journey through time and space! This program celebrates the curious mind and explores connections between history, music, art and science. Baroque Odyssey illuminates the life and contributions of renowned astronomer and mathematician, Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), whose revolutionary insights into optics and planetary motion shaped our understanding of the universe.
This concert is free to attend. There are two performances this day: 3:30-4 and 4:30-5.

A Meeting of Minds: Jacquet de la Guerre and Leonarda
Presented by Instrumental Society of Calgary. A dialogue between two remarkable composers of the Baroque era. This program highlights the contrast between Élisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre’s elegant, courtly keyboard works and Isabella Leonarda’s sacred polyphonic vocal music, transcribed for keyboard by Justin Luchinski.

The program will focus on works which incorporate choral hymn tunes, highlighting the virtuosity and ingenuity of these composers as they “riff” on the well-known melodies of their time!

Leave your cares behind and join String Theory for an intimate soirée of chamber music. Visit the candlelit music salon at Sans Souci, King Frederick II’s summer palace, where musicians experimented with mixed styles, endeavouring to satisfy the King’s tastes. Explore the roots of the modern chamber music concert tradition, and discover music that moved beyond the aesthetic complexities of the baroque to the simplicity of the “galant”, ushering in the classical era.
